Zinc Hydroxy Stannate (ZHS) is a multifunctional, inorganic smoke suppressant and synergist, similar to Zinc Stannate but with hydroxyl groups that offer unique activity.
Flame Retardant Mechanism ZHS also functions in the condensed phase to reduce smoke:
1. Char Promotion: Like ZS, it promotes the formation of a stable, insulating char layer by catalyzing cross-linking in the polymer.
2. Acid Scavenging: The hydroxyl groups can aid in the early-stage trapping of HCl from PVC decomposition, preventing it from auto-catalyzing polymer degradation (unzipping) and thus suppressing smoke formation at its source.
3. Synergy: It works synergistically with Zinc Borate and can be used to reduce levels of Antimony Trioxide.
Key Application Areas
• Flexible PVC: Widely used in wire & cable compounds, flooring, and coated fabrics.
• Halogenated Systems: Effective in any halogen-containing polymer or formulation where smoke suppression is a key objective.
